Im going to list the books in the groups that Mr. Durant created when he wrote the list. There will be a page for each group and it will list the names of the books to be read in that group, the part(s) of the book to be read, and the links to find and download each of the books. I want to make this all as easy as possible to follow for everyone who does want to try and read all of these books.
There really isnt that much information available on actually reading the books on the list. It's as if Mr. Durant had made the list for a friend or relative and would have been available to answer any questions that may have come up during the reading. Imagine sitting down with him and asking him questions about the reading!
I discovered one very interesting note on the reading, which I found as a footnote to the list in its current edition. Mr. Durant feels that each volume should take 10 days to finish, reading one hour a day. It will take 4 years to finish the list of you can consistently read at this pace. Somewhere he states that he recommends just picking out the main pounts of each paragraph and not reading in great detail. But then he also says to read critically and use a dictionary to look up words you are unfamiliar with. So it is up to each of us to find the best way to do the reading, finding the method that works best for us individually.
I don't like reading like that, and I know I won't be able to read at the pace he recommends. I have already set a goal to try and read one selection from the list each month, which would allow me to finish the list in 8 years and 4 months. I do like his idea of reading at least one hour each day and try to do that. He suggest if you miss a day to make it up at a later day. Consistency seems to be the key!
