I am going to list all the books on this page and give all information about the book that I consider to be relevant for people getting the books from this site. This will include who translated the work, the year the listed edition was published, the edition of the book (ie; 1st edition, 4th edition, etc.,) the number of pages the book contains and the size in megabytes (MB) of the book's file (All files are .pdf except two.)

Whenever Mr Durant states a preferenece to a particular translation or edition, I try to find that particular edition. If one is not listed I try to find the person that will be the most proficient at presenting the work to myself and everyone else who is reading these books. Of course this is very subjective and everyone's tastes are different. I prefer scholars when available, but theirs may not always be the best translation or edition available.

I prefer downloading files from the Internet Archive. I use Foxit Reader to read my eBooks and I am able to highlight the pages of text with this reader. I can highlight the tests that I have downloaded from the Internet Archive, but not on the texts I have downloaded from Google Books. I can make notations to the texts downloaded from both locations. The files from the Internet Archive are generally larger than those from Google Books, but I prefer to be able to highlight items in the text that I find interesting, and thus prefer the files that allow me to do that, the size of the file is not that important to me.

Wells' "The Outline of History" This is the 1921 edition (3rd) contains 1200 pages and is a file of 43 MB. 6) William Sumner's "Folkways" This is the 1906 edition of 712 pages which is a file of 45 MB 7) Sir John Frazer's "The Golden Bough" This is the 1922 edition of 776 pages which is a file of 23 MB 8) Breasted and Robinson's "The Human Adventure" This volume is not available as an eBook at this time. 9) Brian Brown's "The Wisdom of the Chinese" This is the 1924 edition (4th) of 226 pages which is a file of 7 MB 10) "The Bible" I am including two different versions of the Bible. The 1935 edtion of the King James Bible which is a file of 4 MB. The 1749 Challoner edition of the Douay-Rheims Bible which is a file of 5 MB. 11) Elie Faure's "History of Art" "History of Art - Ancient Art" Volume 1 is the 1921 edition and contains 400 pages which is a file of 20 MB. "History of Art - Medieval Art" Volume 2 is the 1922 edition, has 477 pages and is a file of 29 MB. "History of Art - Renaissance Art" Volume 3 is not available at this time. "History of Art - Modern Art" Volume 4 is the 1924 (1st) edition and contains 558 pages and is a file of 29 MB. 12) Henry WIlliams "A History of Science" This is the 1904 edition containing 1885 pages in 5 volumes. "A History of Science" Volume 1 contains 380 pages and is a file of 9 MB. "A History of Science" Volume 2 contains 370 pages and is a file of 6 MB. "Lives of Illustrious Men" Volume 1 contains 606 pages and is a file of 27 MB. "Lives of Illustrious Men" Volume 2 contains 596 pages and is a file of 17 MB. "Lives of Illustrious Men" Volume 3 contains 560 pages and is a file of 26 MB. "Lives of Illustrious Men" Volume 4 contains 598 pages and is a file of 50 MB. 17) Gilbert Murray's "History of Ancient Greek Literature" This is the 1901 edition containing 454 pages and is a file of 19 MB. 18) Homer's "The Illiad" This is the the William Cullen Bryant translation (as per Mr. Durant) in 2 volumes containing 886 pages. The "Illiad" Volume 1 is the 1871 edition, contains 437 pages and is a file of 3 MB. The "Illiad" Volume 2 is the 1873 edition, contains 449 pages and is a file of 3 MB. 19) Homer's "The Odyssey" This is the 1873 edition of the William Cullen Bryant translation (as per Mr. Durant) in 2 volumes containing 573 pages. "Homer's Odyssey" Volume 1 contains 297 pages and is a file of 3 MB. "Homer's Odyssey" Volume 2 contains 276 pages and is a file of 3 MB. 20) Aeschylus' "Prometheus Bound" This is the 1906 edition of Elizabeth Barret Browning's translation (as per Mr. Durant) containing 712 pages which is a file of 45 MB. 21) Sophocles "The Dramas" Everyman Library Edition. "Alcestis" is the 1920 edition containing 99 pages and is a file of 3 MB. "Electra" is the 1919 edition containing 108 pages and is a file of 4 MB.
